DA Survey of Semi-Rural Property using LiDAR

Drone based contour survey of semi-rural property for subdivision planning and DA

PROJECT OVERVIEW

The owner of a  rural property near Grafton in NSW was working with a town planner to subdivide their property. To support the planning and DA works, a detailed contour survey of the property was required. Conventional survey of the property was estimated to require up to 1-week for a conventional survey team to execute.

DIODRONE SOLUTION

Diodrone developed a survey solution utilising drone-based LiDAR and aerial orthophoto mapping.

High resolution drone-LiDAR was captured to develop a digital terrain model and elevation contours over the site which, in conjunction with a high resolution aerial orthophoto, allowed for virtual survey of fence lines and site features. Cadastral survey was digitised from deposited plans and included with the survey deliverables.

Drone-LiDAR reduced the survey time from 5 days to 3 hours, delivering high-resolution data for project stakeholders.

Additional to the contour survey, a web-hosted 3D model of the site was developed for use in site visualisation by project stakeholders, reducing reliance on in-field investigation and inspection.

The solution provided a conventional set of contour survey plans, as required by Council, by using an innovative data capture method which significantly accelerated the works, reduced costs and provided a rich 3D visualisation to assist with planning works. The survey time was reduced from 5 days to 3 hours.
